What is Hypnotherapy

The Principals of Hypnotherapy
Our Mind: Conscious and Subconscious
Our conscious mind; like the tip of the iceberg is what we are most aware of, it is more obvious, it is at the surface.  We are in a conscious state of mind when we are alert and functioning during our waking hours.

Our conscious mind is our daily, cognitive thinking mind. It can remember from 5 up to 9 things all at the same time. It is the thinking part of our mind that functions from the moment we wake up until we go to sleep. It is the state of mind that we are usually most aware of. Our conscious thinking mind is our daily guide and thinker, quick on it’s feet, it stays alert until we sleep (unless we sedate it with alcohol or drugs!).

Our subconscious mind: like the bulk of the iceberg beneath the water’s surface.

Our subconscious mind is that part of our mind that is NOT CONSCIOUS. Like the bulk of the iceberg beneath water the subconscious mind is much greater in its functional capacity than our conscious mind. It can facilitate billions, if not trillions of interactions and functions all at the same time.

It is also our storehouse;

  • It holds everything that we have ever learned,
  • It is where we hold our perceptions of ourselves and our beliefs
  • It stores all our memories, our habits and
  • It is where our behaviours are formed into repeat patterns or habitual mannerisms.
It is also called our higher mind and the Unconscious Mind (i.e., the mind other than what we are conscious of).

Our Higher Mind is our very best friend.
It is our best friend and has been since the moment we were born. It listens, watches and learns constantly. It’s priority is our survival, our safety and ensuring that we live in as balanced a state of mind as possible. It never sleeps. It is what calls us or wakes us up when we need to go pee during the night. It does this when we are “consciously” asleep. It oversees, millions upon millions of functions within our bodies on a continuous basis e.g., heartbeat, lungs breathing and all organ and cell functions. In fact the depth and scope of the power of our Higher Mind is very difficult to grasp, it is so immense!

Getting in touch with Our Higher Minds:
We are not trained from a young age about such things as our higher mind or of it’s amazing power. Unless we find out, then we consciously do not know how to make the most of it’s wonderful power. In fact, while we do not know about its power and how it functions, we are powerless to control this very power which in many ways controls us without our knowing.

The objective of this book is to describe, in simple basic language, how our minds works; and through this understanding to open our minds to many wonderful, easy tools which instil in us the power to access and use our own Higher Power.

We can learn at any age, how to communicate with our higher mind in a more efficient way. There are many ways to achieve an awareness of our higher minds. One of the most direct and effective ways is through Hypnosis.  Creating positive, lasting change is possible when we access this state of mind (see positive change classes)

When we learn how to access our Higher mind at will then we access this incredibly powerful ally of ours.  While in direct contact with it we can then Program it to install new positive programs of behaviour. We can also, through hypnotherapy release negative patters that have kept us stuck in unhealthy or restrictive behaviour patterns. We can, in essence, increase our ability to achieve that which we want for ourselves.

A Unique Friendship between Conscious and Subconscious Minds:
Our Subconscious mind and our Conscious mind have a wonderful contract between them. They have been working together for our highest good since we were born. We can see this if for example if we look at how we learn things. There are many ways we learn things, the most common way is consciously. Like the way we practice our tables in school, repeating them over and over until it comes to us automatically without having to think of it. Or when we start to learn to cycle or drive a car. In these situations we think a lot about what we have to do while we are learning, eg., clutch, then put into gear, then clutch off slowly and increase the pressure on the gas at the same time...BINGO WE ARE DRIVING THE CAR!!

So consciously we learn something. When we do, what is really happening, is that we are showing our Higher mind how it is done. With practice the learned skill is taken over by the Higher Mind or Subconscious mind and it is fine-tuned there. By this I mean that the Higher mind takes these practical techniques and combines them with an intuitive knowledge of the torque of the car and the weight of it and how much acceleration (and in what gear) is needed to make this hill!!! The skill is then ours forever and now that it is learned, our Subconscious mind will do it for us effortlessly and with ease.

Furthermore, we can take note that we do not have to consciously think about riding a bicycle or driving a car once we have learned. Typically people driving a car will do so while they are thinking about several things, e.g., the shopping, the news on the radio, the best place to go in order to get parking. So, who is driving the car while all this “conscious” thinking is going on? The answer is your Higher mind.

YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND HEARS AND UNDERSTANDS LANGUAGE IN A SPECIFIC WAY

  • THE LANGUAGE OF OUR HIGHER MIND IS MUCH LIKE THAT OF A CHILD
  • IT HEARS THE ACTION WORDS OR THE EMOTIONAL WORDS, if you speak about not wanting to feel sad, the higher mind hears only “feel sad”!!
  • IT DOES NOT NOTICE DON’T, DO’S, DO NOT WANTS... ETC...
  • WE NEED TO COMMUNICATE TO IT IN A POSITIVE LANGUAGE, CLEARLY STATING WHAT WE WANT , CLEARLY SPEAKING TO OURSELVES ABOUT HOW WE WANT TO FEEL, WHERE WE WANT TO BE, HOW WE WANT TO BE........(speak about what you want to move towards, not what you want to move away from!!)
