"What is causing my symptoms?"
Firstly the term "symptom" is used here to describe any challenge you are experiencing that is in contrast to what you want or to your natural, healthy, functional self. Symptoms can also be called dysfunctions. Symptoms can range from behavioural problems, to anxiety, distress, depression or psychosomatic ailments (dis-ease in the body that is caused by or accentuated by, stress in our psyche).
Symptoms and challenges are as varied and individual as people themselves. However, they all function and are maintained based on the same basic rules.
Most functional symptoms occur because of Core Beliefs held in our Subconscious mind. These Core Beliefs are in essence pockets of Energy that fuel or drive a particular symptom or behaviour and cause us to behave in certain ways, even if we do not want to!! Basically our mind is investing energy into the maintenance of these set ideas about something ....
These kind of negative and limiting Core Beliefs are mostly untrue; but like “knowings” they feel, really, real. So we don''t notice that they are present and influencing us, except of course through the fact that we have symptoms or an issue that are contrary to that which we desire! And which usually makes little or no rational sense!!
Let me explain further. I mention "knowing" above because this is in stark contrast to "believing" something; in that a "knowing" is based on something factual and fact does not change... however, a "belief" [while feeling real] can be totally untrue. A “knowing” is something factual like knowing what hot is or that gravity keeps us on the ground. A typical self-limiting fixed idea or belief is not factual. For example “ I am not good with names” is a belief held by many. People believe this therefore they have the experience of being "not good with names". This does not mean that they were born with a "bad with names-gene" or that they cannot get to be very good with names!!!
Mostly, we are unaware of the existence of negating beliefs. Thus, we can feel overwhelmed, out of control & fearful or just at odds with ourselves when they are inevitably triggered as we go through our lives . This is natural because we don’t know consciously what is really going on! The thing which breeds most fear in humans is often this, "not understanding”. When we are feeling, acting out, or experiencing things in a manner that is “not what we want” but “seems out of our control“, then we are “suffering from the existence of negative fixed-ideas or beliefs and the powerful effects of their invested-energy-force.”
Through Clincal Hypnosis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and a host of clever therapeutic tools that constitute ProgressTherapy we can discover these beliefs and using ProgressTherapy any fixed ideas that are driving unwanted behaviours, anxiety states and symptoms can be either radically deminished or totally eliminated.
